BMW PH regears: Jacob Ang takes control

The road ahead is long, the scenery is changing, and the speedometer is climbing. For BMW Philippines, the next course has just shifted into high gear.

The German brand has a new driver at the helm. Since September 1, Jacob Ang has taken over as president of the premium car brand’s local distributor, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, at a time when the automotive industry is not only expanding but also quietly moving toward an electrified future.

With a familiar surname and a pit crew pedigree, Jacob Ang is the son of Ramon S. Ang, billionaire industrialist and chairman of SMCACD. Jacob inherits the keys from Spencer Yu, who kept the local marque in the fast lane for seven years.

Jacob’s apprenticeship under his father’s watchful eye may have prepared him to navigate hairpin turns in market trends, steering BMW Philippines into its next phase of growth.

“Jacob’s leadership and fresh perspective will help us further strengthen BMW’s presence in the Philippines,” Ramon S. Ang, SMC resident, said in a well-publicized statement. “We’ve built a strong foundation over the years, and with his energy and vision, I am confident he will take the brand further and create even more value for our customers.”

For his part, Jacob Ang pledged to build on the company’s strengths while driving innovation.

“This is an exciting time for our industry and for BMW in the Philippines,” he said. “My priority is to build on what we do best—innovate in how we serve our customers and reinforce BMW’s position as the leader in premium mobility in the country.”

As a race car driver himself, Ang’s “first lap” will presumably be about refining the machine already in motion.
