Malabon City upgraded its street lights to LED lights as an eco-friendly and cost-efficient alternative, as well as to guarantee the safety of all Malabonians.
This March, the Malabon Street Lighting Project inaugurated its newly-installed street lights in Hasa-Hasa and Marteniko in Tanigue, Kitang Alley and Gen. Borromeo in Barangay Longos, and Sampaloc Street in Barangay Panghulo.
“The Malabon Street Lighting Project was programmed as an upgrade of the technology available to change the Meralco lights to LED lights, which is expected to decrease the cost of power consumption,” said Christian Uriarte of the Malabon City Engineering Department (CED).
Considering LED street lights is a smart and effective way to brighten the city as this technology is designed to be environmentally beneficial due to their low energy consumption and affordable maintenance expenses.
As of December 2021, the city government of Malabon has installed a total of 6,268 LED streetlights through the help of the CED and it garnered several positive impacts including giving the city a vibrant feel, guaranteeing safety for road users, and most importantly, serving as a deterrent to crime.
“We will continue these kinds of projects to ensure the safety of every Malabonian and to maintain order here in Malabon City,” said Mayor Lenten Oreta.
