GMA Network, as part of its environmental advocacy project Kapuso ng Kalikasan, recently partnered with Maynilad to adopt one hectare of tree planting site in the Ipo Watershed located in municipalities of Bulacan and Rizal. The Angat-Umiray-Ipo watersheds system supplies around 96% of the water needs of Metro Manila.
Under Maynilad’s ‘Plant for Life’ program, its partner-communities planted 400 Narra saplings at GMA’s site in Mt. Balagbag, which is part of the Ipo Watershed.
This initiative aims to rehabilitate and reforest Metro Manila’s main sources of water supply to help prevent land erosion, flooding, and drought.
For several years now, GMA has been working hand in hand with Maynilad by deploying employee-volunteers, dubbed GMA G.I.V.E.S. (Guide, Interact, Volunteer, Educate, and Serve), to the latter’s coastal clean-up and tree planting activities.
