SEA Games meeting set in December

THERE will be a meeting in December among all 11 national chiefs of mission of the participating countries in the 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games that is pushing through in May 2022 , according to PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez.

“The key dates and timelines leading to the Vietnam SEA Games were released during the 12th Meeting of ASEAN Sports Minister held online last Tuesday that was attended by PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez,” Fernandez, the delegation chief of mission, said yesterday.

Presiding over the SEA Games briefing was Hoang Dao Cuong, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, who also announced that the distribution of technical sports handbooks of the 40 disciplines in the meet will be done during the December meeting.

Fernandez, however, did not say if the meeting would be held virtually or face-to-face.

“Based on what was discussed, the deadline for the entry by number will be in January while the month or February will be the submission of accreditation forms, and the deadline of entry by names in March,” Fernandez said.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino announced last week that Vietnam decided to proceed with the delayed sportsfest in May 2022, which was originally set to be held next month in the capital of Hanoi, after a meeting of the SEA Games Federation Council.

Last July, Vietnamese organizers postponed the meet to next year due to the spike of COVID-19 cases then across the region.
