Ramin leads Pinoy keg bets in Asian Youth tilt

ALTHOUGH likely with a target on his back following his recent Singapore Open win, Zach Sales Ramin aims to take everything in stride as he leads the national youth team seeing action in the 21st Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships starting tomorrow in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Just because I won the Singapore Open, it doesn’t mean I will always win. As they say, the ball is round so I want to take everything in stride,” said the Singapore-based Ramin, who became the youngest winner of the Singapore Open men’s singles title at 17 last month.

He acknowledged that capturing his first major plum was a huge confidence boost, saying: “I have more confidence now than before that I have proven myself and done well. So, I don’t see any reason why I won’t be able to do it again.”

Ramin said he is wrapping up exams as a graduating Grade 12 at the Anglo-Chinese School Independent before heading to the Thai capital today together with his father Rudi in time for the opening of the competition at the Blu-O Rhythm and Bowl Center.

“I have been practically juggling my bowling and studies all of my life so it’s normal for me,” he pointed out.

He said the tourney will be played in the same venue where the bowling tournament of the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was held last November and where he also played in last year’s Asian juniors.

“There are some dry spots in some of the lanes that may make it hard for some bowlers,” said Ramin of his previous experience on the lane conditions of the venue.
