IVAN Malig and Grace Gella topped their respective groups last Sunday night to advance to the second round of the singles action in the men’s and women’s divisions of the IBF World Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club in Kuwait City.
Malig, 26, bested five others in Group E of Pool 1 to complete a 5-0 shutout of his foes with steadily improving scores of 212, 216, 222, 246 and 289, respectively, for a tally 1185 pinfalls, averaging 237.00 in securing the maximum 15 points.
The players he beat were South Korea’s Kim Kyung Min, Hong Kong’s Wu Shiu Hong, Qatar’s Jassimal Al Muraikhi, Oman’s Khalid Ahmen Ali bin Issa and Uzbekistan’s Bokhodir Arifov.
Malig goes into the next round as the group topnotcher.
Gella, 22, also ruled Group C in Pool 1 in 5-0 fashion with lines of 205, 192, 190, 242, 201, respectively, totaling 1030 and averaging 206 in likewise gaining a maximum of 15 points.
She beat South Korea’s Baek Seung Ja, Norway’s Birgit Noreiks, Singapore’s Collen Pee, Kuwait’s Wasmiyah Al-Abdullah and China’s Zang Yuhong.
