PH eyes U-23 Asian Cup slot in Singapore

EXPERIENCED goalie Quincy Kammeraad, midfielders Oliver Bias and Mark Winhoffer, along with defender Justin Baas, who have suited up for the Azkals, will form the backbone of the 23-man national squad that will see action in the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup Group H qualifiers in Singapore next week.

Several other members of the Azkals Development Team that saw action in the 2020 Philippines Football League season were tapped by British coach Scott Cooper for the tournament also featuring host Singapore, South Korea and Timor Leste.

They are defenders Christian Rontini, midfielders Jethro Borlongan, Dennis Chung, Yrick Gallantes, Mandy Lloyd Ignacio, Oskari Johannes Kekkonen, Sandro Miguel Reyes, Mark Francis Swainston and forward Marcel Ivan Ouano.

Goalies Enrico Mangaoang and Jessie Reil Semblante of La Salle and Mendiola FC, respectively, were also tapped together with defender Justin Baas and striker Kieran Hayes, both of reigning PFL champion United Football Club.

Among the newcomers are Fil-foreign defenders Paolo Nicola Perez and David Kevin Setters, who were born in Italy and England, respectively; midfielders Jacob Francis Maniti, Nathan Rilloraza and forwards Miguel Antonio Mendoza and Jens Sebastian Rasmussen.

The Pinoy booters are coming from a training camp in Doha, Qatar arranged by the Philippine Football Federation after holding a similar camp last September in Lipa, Batangas near the Aboitiz field.
