MORE opportunities to play overseas are opening up not only for Filipino cagers but also for spikers.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Ramon “Tats” Suzara is convinced this would happen soon.
“I think maybe in the next two years we could have more players playing in other countries,” Suzara said recently in the online Philippine Sportswriters Association forum.
“I’m very optimistic that there will be more opportunities for our players especially we have tall players,” he added.
There are three Filipinos suiting up as imports in the Japan V. League, namely, Jaja Santiago, Bryan Bagunas, and Marck Espejo.
Santiago is seeing action with Saitama Ageo for the fourth straight year, while Bagunas will be playing for Oita for the third straight season.
Espejo was tapped by FC Tokyo after playing for Oita Miyoshi in 2018.
Majoy Baron was also set to link up with Top Seed in Taiwan.
The tournament was postponed due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, however.
The volleyball chief is looking forward to having more locals bringing their acts overseas, maintaining it will do wonders for the national teams.
“These are things we are looking forward to,” Suzara said in the public sports program presented by San Miguel Corp., Go For Gold, Milo, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., and powered by Smart and Upstream Media as official webcast partner.
