Orcollo keeps win run going

ASIAN Games gold medalist Dennis Orcollo sustained his winning ways in the US Open Pool Championship yesterday (Wednesday in the US), whipping American and former US 9-ball Open champ Corey Deuel 11-1 to enter the round-of-32 at the Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In picking up his second straight win in the winner’s bracket, Orcollo, who bagged the men’s 9-ball gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games, advanced against Hungary’s Oliver Szolnoki for a spot in the round-of-16 at 1 p.m. (1 a.m. in Manila) today.

Also a three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, the veteran cue ace beat American Paul Spaanstra 9-2 in the first round.

Joining him in the next round is Bacolod native Johan Gonzales Chua, who subdued Lithuania’s Phijus Labutis 11-6, and advanced against Poland’s Mieszko Fortunski in the six-day tournament offering a top prize of $30,000 (around P1.5 million).
