UNBEATEN Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo will get a crack at reigning American World Boxing Council featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. in a mandatory title fight on Jan. 22 (Jan. 23 in Manila) at the Borgata Hotel and Casino Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The boxingscene.com website reported yesterday (Wednesday in the US) that the Russell-Magsayo title clash will headline the card promoted by TGB Promotions in cooperation with Showtime and Premier Boxing Champions headed by veteran ring impresario Al Haymon.
Handled by the MP Promotions of Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Magsayo boosted his stock when he overcame a knockdown to knock out American Julio Ceja in the 10th round of their scheduled 12-round encounter last Aug. 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
