Lady Pirates gain share of the early lead

LYCEUM brought down Jose Rizal University 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 yesterday for its third straight win and gained a piece of the early lead in the 98th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex.

Team captain Venice Puzon distributed the ball solidly for Lyceum with 15 excellent sets, along with two points, while Joan Doguna had 19 markers.

Janeth Tulang also had 17 points, while Johna Dolorito contributed 14 markers and six digs for Lyceum.

The Lady Pirates joined defending champion College of St. Benilde and Perpetual Help on top with 3-0 cards.

Mary May Ruiz paced the Lady Bombers with 12 points, while skipper Sydney Niegos and Karyla Jasareno added nine and eight markers, respectively.

In the other game, Mapua University edged San Sebastian College 24-26, 25-21, 27-25, 21-25, 15-12.

Hannah De Guzman sizzled with 20 points to lead the Lady Cardinals, while Roxie Dela Cruz had 18 markers.

Alyanna Ong contributed 16 points and Chenie Batac added 12 as Mapua improved to a 2-1.

Kristine Dionisio paced the Lady Stags with 26 points, while Amaka Tan 15 markers and Katherine Santos got 15 and 14 markers, respectively.

San Sebastian remained winless in three outings.
