BY ABBY TORALBA

CIGNAL turned back Akari 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 yesterday to crash the winner’s circle in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Before 6,345 fans who showed up on Valentine’s Day, skipper Rachel Anne Daquis pumped in 11 points and seven excellent receptions to lead the HD Spikers, while Roselyn Doria added nine markers.

Setter Gel Cayuna contributed 21 excellent sets along with four points to lift Cignal, while Ces Molina fired eight markers for Cignal.

The HD Spikers recovered from back-to-back losses, counting a 16-25, 21-25, 15-21 defeat to Creamline last Thursday, and improved to 1-2.

After dominating the opening frame, Cignal started slow in the second set but was able to take the lead in the second at 16-15.

The HD Spikers kept their poise as Molina took Cignal to set point 24-20 and then closed it out with a double contact violation from the Chargers’ Krich Macaslang.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat was the lone bright spot for Akari with 11 points.

The Chargers suffered their third straight loss and stayed winless.
