PHILIP Bagalay put up an all-around performance for VNS Griffins as it downed Philippine Air Force 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 yesterday in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Paco Arena.
The Griffins improved their card to 3-2 thanks to Balagay, who sparked with 17 points along with 29 excellent receptions.
“Magaling talaga iyong kalaban namin kasi mga veteran iyan. Kaya iyon, nag-adjust pa rin kami sa attacks naming,” VNS coach Ralph Ocampo said.
“Sinubukan namin makipagsabayan, maganda naman iyong naging result,” he added.
The young Griffins sustained their surge from last Sunday where they edged NU-Archipelago 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 20-25, 17-15.
Jeremy Pedrosa chipped in 15 markers and six digs while skipper Ron Medalla and Russel Fronda contributed 10 points each for VNS’ third win.
VNS and Air Force exchanged fiery attacks in the fourth set that resulted to a 15-all standoff.
But the Griffins started to pull away and took a 20-17 buffer. Although the Airmen equalized at 21-all, two straight attacking errors from Air Force’s Ranran Abdilla shoved the Griffins to 23-21 as Bagalay produced the last two points that VNS needed to close out the match.
Airmen’s Abdilla led the Airmen with 25 points, while Rodolfo Labrador added 11 markers.
Air Force tumbled to its second straight loss and fell to 1-4.
