GAB holds last summit under Mitra

THE Games and Amusements Board will hold its third and last Professional Summit online under Chairman Baham Mitra on Sept. 29 to provide leagues and stakeholders with updated information and regulations in conducting pro sports amid the pandemic.

“This will be my last professional sports summit and we’re hoping to go out with a bang,” Mitra said during the GAB’s monthly virtual press conference yesterday of the event that has “Professional Sports through the Pandemic: Now and Future Directions” as its theme.

He said the agency hopes to provide the latest best practices culled from different leagues such as the PBA, PFL, PVL, NBL and NWBL, among others, in how they conducted their competitions while fending off the lethal and contagious virus.

“We want to share their experiences in what they did in overcoming challenges during their respective comebacks while the pandemic was going on and the sacrifices they made,” he said. “All the while we thought we would back to normal by this time but we are not and we don’t know how this (pandemic) is going to last.

“We will have several updates, especially now that the situation is critical.”
