Former GAB chief, PSC exec Cepeda, 86

FORMER Games and Amusements Board chairman and former PSC commissioner Atty. Dominador Cepeda Jr. passed away last Sunday. He was 86.

Before being appointed to head the GAB, Cepeda, a San Beda law graduate, served as commissioner during the term of the late PSC chairman and Manila Mayor Mel Lopez, who served the government sports agency from 1993 to 1996.

Among Cepeda’s fellow commissioners at that time were former Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso Dayrit, who passed away last week; ex-Pasig Mayor Mario Raymundo, and the late national volleyball standout Josie Bauzon.

Cepeda served as GAB from 1994 to July 2001 under the administrations of former Presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada, distinguishing himself as a staunch advocate of local professional boxing.

During his term, some major world professional fights were held in the country, including the title defenses of former World Boxing Council featherweight champion Luisito “Golden Boy” Espinosa at the Rizal Park in 1996 and 1997.
