EMILIO Aguinaldo College woodpusher Celso Sandrejo Jr. beat Carlos Fernan Ferrer of Jose Rizal University last Sunday in the Round-of-16 of the 96th NCAA season junior’s chess division tournament.
With the victory, Sandrejo Jr. gained a quarterfinals berth.
The country’s oldest collegiate league plodded on with its new season with online events, with the basketball and volleyball tournaments getting cancelled.
Among the options the NCAA considered was holding its season in a bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna. — Michael Jugado
