BETTER late than never.
More than six months after her heroic golden feat in the Tokyo Olympic Games, weightlifter Hidylin Diaz was honored yesterday by the College of St. Benilde with the first Benilde golden medallion as a prized student-athlete of the institution at the CSB Sports Complex in Pasay City.
“The Benilde medallion is the College of St. Benilde’s highest expression of institutional recognition in appreciation of individuals and institutions for their extraordinary achievements and contributions,” noted CSB President Bro. Edmundo Fernandez, FSC.
“It is a symbol Benildean identity of doing things extraordinarily well. You (Diaz) endured the daily routine of preparing your mind, body and spirit in that weightlifting act that resulted in that extraordinary victory at the Tokyo Olympic Games,” Fernandez said.
“You Hidy are very special to us at Benilde as you represent our commitment to help athletes ensure they get a good education,” added the CSB President.
Diaz also received a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and articles of her exploits since winning the silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Bro. Fernandez also announced the school would have a scholarship named in Diaz’s honor, starting with five national athletes who will receive the benefit of a quality Benilde quality education beginning this new school term.
