CIGNAL overpowered VNS-One Alicia 25-22, 25-20 26-24 yesterday for its third straight win and seized the solo lead in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Paco Arena.
Skipper Ysay Marasigan tallied 14 points, 12 from attacks, one block and a service ace for the HD Spikers, while open hitter Marck Espejo and middle blocker JP Bugaoan added eight and six markers, respectively.
The win came on the heels of Cignal’s 25-15, 25-14, 25-19 whipping of Army-Kantinko last Thursday.
The Griffins failed in their bid to score a big follow-up to their 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 30-28, 15-13 decision over Santa Rosa City six days ago and slipped to 2-1.
“Pagdating naman sa ganyang mga laro, kung sino iyong pinakamatibay na puso and of course iyong focus sa game iyon ang mananalo,” HD Spikers coach Dexter Clamor said.
“So maganda naman iyong naging performance, nanalo kahit medyo nag-rattle noong last, iyong patapos na iyong laro, ang importante naman doon ay kung paano tinapos iyong game,” he added.
Opposite spiker Kevin Montemayor led VNS-One Alicia with 13 kills, while Ben San Andres registered nine points.
