JPS Zamboanga City humbled MisOr, scoring an 85-75 victory in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup yesterday at the Pagadian City Gymnasium in Zamboanga del Sur.
JPS went on a big third quarter surge, scoring 26 points, to go into the final quarter with a 74-60 lead and threatened to win pulling away.
But Reil Cervantes’ basket at the 1:33 mark of the payoff period capped a 15-5 blast as MisOr closed in at 75-79.
Big men Jerwin Gaco and Gabby Espinas combined in a 5-0 run, via a layup and a three-pointer, to seal the win for Zamboanga.
“After our loss yesterday, Jerwin talked to the team to lift their spirits up,” said JPS Zamboanga coach Tony Pardo, referring to their 69-71 loss at the hands of Roxas. “He really led by example today.”
Gaco continued his fine play, scoring 24 points on an 11-of-16 shooting from the field, to go with 12 rebounds as JPS hiked its win-loss card to 3-2.
Espinas also delivered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with four assists and a block. Also finishing in double figures were Aaron Jeruta, Med Salim, and Fran Yu, who combined for 32.
JPS dominated the boards with 46 rebounds against MisOr’s measly 28.
