BY ABBY TORALBA

LETRAN crushed Mapua 85-67 to close out its eliminations campaign yesterday in the 98th NCAA juniors’ basketball tournament yesterday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

Jovel Baliling and Timothy Cruz led the offensive attack for the Squires with 15 points apiece, while June Silorio added 10 markers.

With the triumph, Letran bagged the first twice-to-beat advantage in the semis after finishing with an 8-1 mark.

Paolo Morenos paced the Red Robins with 13 markers, while Nygel Gonzales and Carl Rodriguez combined for 22 points.

La Salle Green Hills also finished the eliminations with a 98-74 drubbing of San Sebastian that strengthened its playoff chances.

Manuel Pablo posted a double-double outing of 24 points and 12 rebounds, James Ison added 21 markers, five assists, four boards and two steals, while Seven Gagate tallied 17 points and 18 caroms for the Greenies.

Mark De Leon’s 17 markers and Rion Porcades’ 16-point performance went for naught for the Staglets.
