Scorpions test grit of Altas

IN a duel pitting two teams with contrasting fates lately, Centro Escolar University coach Jeff Perlas said his troops cannot afford to lift their feet off the pedal against Perpetual Help, even though the Las Piñas-based quintet is on a mini slump.

“Marami pa kaming lapses so we have to continue getting better. We need games facing UAAP and NCAA teams,” Perlas said.

“Now, it’s Perpetual so it’s a welcome opportunity for us to step up anew. Pagbubutihan pa namin,” he added.

Whether his players heed Perlas’ call will be known when the Scorpions square off with the Altas today in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

CEU will go into the 4 p.m. match on a high, having won two straight games, counting a 92-85 overtime triumph over Wangs-Basketball @27 Striker-Letran seven days ago that hiked its card to 2-1 for solo third.

The Knights face the hapless AMA Online Titans in the curtain-raiser at 2 o’clock.

The Scorpions will draw strength from Ron Rei Tolentino, Ayodeji Victor Balogun, Franz Diaz, and Jerome Santos.

Perpetual dropped its last two outings, including a 73-80 setback at the hands of defending champion EcoOil-La Salle last Tuesday.

Cyrus Nitura, Carlo Ferreras, and Art Roque will be counted upon by the Altas in their bid to improve their 2-2 record.
