THIRDY Ravena’s PBA stint will still have to wait, for now.
Ravena sent last Wednesday a letter to the PBA Board of Governors explaining his decision to stay in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The letter explained his move to sign a multi-year contract extension as an import for San-En NeoPhoenix in the Japan B. League and avoid being tagged as a “draft dodger.”
Under PBA rules, players who chose to skip the draft two years after their last playing year in college risk being handed a ban.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said he understood that Ravena wants to atone for a seemingly underwhelming maiden season overseas.
“Nakausap naman natin si Thirdy at ipinaliwanag niya na sa tingin niya, mas may igagaling pa siya doon,” Marcial was quoted as saying by an online website.
“Ang dami nangyari sa season niya doon mula sa COVID hanggang sa injuries kaya gusto pa niyang patunayan ang sarili niya.”
The 6-foot-2 Ravena averaged 9.1 points on 36-percent shooting, to go with 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 22.8 minutes of play in 18 games where he saw action, including 14 matches as a starter.
