NCAA still awaits green light

IT’S still a no-go for the NCAA.

The league is not keen on launching its 96th season without the green light from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, according to a highly-reliable Malaya-Business Insight source.

The source spoke after the Games and Amusements Board issued a warning that non-professional sports are still banned despite the expected arrival of COVID-19 vaccines this month.

There were sports events that hinted about holding their tourneys this year. A nationwide basketball tournament for the youth called Batang Pilipino Basketball League has received a warning from the GAB.

“Okay lang. Mag-warning sila nang mag-warning, kasi sa NCAA, we will not proceed without any go-signal from the IATF. That’s very clear,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

“Iyon ang pinu-push namin ngayon (online events). Pangit lang iyong word but it looks stupid kapag nagbalak ka ng tournament. Iyong practice lang, hindi binibigyan ng permiso.”

The source insisted the country’s oldest collegiate league will follow the government’s directions.

“Kukuha din kami ng CHED clearance kasi school-based kami aside sa DOH and IATF,” the source said.
