Despite slow start, Ramos fine

RARING to redeem himself.

After a lackluster two games for Toyama, do-it-all guard Dwight Ramos vowed to bounce back and help the Grouses get their bid going after losing their first six matches in the Japan B. League.

“We have a new team. I just joined the team so we’re not really flowing in,” Ramos said.

“We’ll keep practicing, keep working hard, and the improvements will come.”

The 6-foot-5 Ramos could only muster six points on a paltry 3-of-14 shooting, to go with seven rebounds and three assists in Toyama’s 68-94 loss to Nagoya last Saturday.

He had nine points on a 4-of-12 clip, on top of four boards and three dimes as the Grouses fell to the Diamond Dolphins anew 74-99 last Sunday.

Ramos, 23, did not see action for Toyama early in its campaign as he went through quarantine.

He admitted he has yet to jive with his teammates, but that’s just fine with Ramos.

“It felt good out there to be with my teammates,” Ramos said. “Obviously, we haven’t adjusted a little bit.”

The Grouses square off with the Ryukyu Golden Kings, a team who has Meralco import Allen Durham, this weekend.

In a surprising move, Ramos, who was set to suit up for reigning three-time UAAP champion in the UAAP, signed a one-year contract as an Asian import in the Japan league.
