CEBU CITY. – Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 president Ronald Mascariñas maintains his firm — a top backer of the sport in the country — is not out to steal the thunder from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
They just want to help in a big way.
“Right now, may sinusuportahan ang federation na 3×3 program, iyong sa PBA. Ang sa amin naman dito sa Chooks-to-Go like in any other CSR activity na ginagawa namin, we’re trying to bridge the gap,” Mascariñas said during the Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 Cebu World Tour Masters launch Thursday at the Radisson Hotel here.
“We’re not competing with them. Nakikita lang namin na there’s a gap. Given that the SBP has its hands full, it has a 5-on-5 program na inaasikaso, malaking programa iyong 5-on-5.
Ang nakikita lang namin there’s a gap doon sa 3×3 program ng federation kaya kami pumasok ang Chooks-to-Go,” he added.
The World Tour Masters, the highest level of FIBA 3×3 play, gets going with two Philippine teams in Cebu Chooks and Manila Chooks tomorrow at the SM Seaside.
Also competing in the tourney are Belgium’s Antwerp, Latvia’s Riga, the Netherlands’ Amsterdam, Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, Switzerland’s Lausanne, Mongolia’s Sansar, the United States’ Omaha, Japan’s Utsunomiya and Saitama, India’s Ludhiana, and Qatar’s Doha.
Chooks 3×3 Quest bridesmaid Zaisan pulled out from the meet since it will also see action in the FIBA 3×3 Under-23 Worlds.
Ulaanbaatar, who placed third in the same tournament, will replace Zaisan.
