Chooks Sinulog Cup gets going

CHOOKS-to-Go is going back to the salt mines down south.

Cebu 3×3 teams are set to do battle in the Chooks Sinulog Cup that gets going today at the Cebu City Sports Institute and Cebu Coliseum.

“Cebu sports has always had a special place in the heart of Chooks-to-Go. It was here where our sports advocacy started,” Chooks-to-Go President Ronald Mascariñas said.

“With our support of the Sinulog Cup, we intend to keep an eye on all the teams here in the hopes of finding potential talent that can be part of the national 3×3 team,” he added.

Present during the press launch yesterday at the Lloyds Cafe in the Bonifacio District were Cebu City councilor and basketball great Dondon Hontiveros, who is the Sinulog Execom Promotion Cluster chairman, tournament Commissioner Atty. Jave Mike Aton, and co-Commissioner Jonathan Saso. Coach Jerry Abuyabor represented Chooks-to-Go.

The Sinulog Cup will feature eight squads raring to rule the tilt set to wind up on Jan. 24.

Four of them are collegiate quintets, namely, Benedicto-Lakawan, University of San Carlos, University of Southern Philippines, and last year’s Chooks-to-Go CESAFI runner-up University of Cebu.

Four commercial teams are out to give the college crews a run for their money – EGS-Aneda Builders from Sogod, the UNBL Stars of Bacolod, K & L of Naga, and local team Dh25 Rus.

The two teams will be split into two pools of four.

The champion team will be rewarded with a cash prize of P150,000, while the runner-up will receive P75,000. The third placer will get P50,000.

Chooks-to-Go, the country’s undisputed chicken rotisserie market leader, has long supported sports development in Cebu.
