CEBU CITY. – Bloodied but unbowed, Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 teams are out to fan chances of gaining a slot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
That certainly is not a walk in the park and to achieve their cherished goal, Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas said his firm backing the country’s drive is eyeing to tap European imports.
“That’s the immediate plan (tap European imports) and in countries like Latvia, Serbia, affordable ang imports unlike in developed countries kapag wala kang trabaho, mayroong social welfare,” Mascariñas said last Sunday as the curtains fell on the Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3×3 World Tour Cebu Masters at the SM Seaside City here.
“Malaking tulong ang mga countries like Japan, even India, Thailand, nakakapaglaro itong mga players for their livelihood and the FIBA is happy na nakakatulong sila,” he added.
Most of the top-ranked 3×3 players in the FIBA rankings are from Serbia, Latvia, Belgium, and other Euro nations.
Manila Chooks and Cebu Chooks, with reinforcements Henry Iloka and Mike Nzeusseu, failed in their campaigns in the two-day tilt at the Queen City of the South.
That failed to deter Mascariñas’ spirits.
“Even na napakalayo natin ngayon and kung titignan ay imposible, sabi nga nila it’s impossible until it becomes possible. In fact, we will plan every inch of the way. Ano ba ang kailangan? Change some of our players? Whatever it takes,” the amiable executive and sportsman said.
