Cebu Chooks 3×3 team bracketed in tough group

THE Cebu Chooks 3×3 squad faces a tough task in the Chooks-to-Go Manila Masters from May 28 to 29 at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

No.1 seed Ub Huishan NE of Serbia is bracketed with the Filipino dribblers in Pool A, along with Zavkhan MMC Energy of Mongolia, but Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas remained unfazed.

“It’s going to be a tough group for Cebu but it’s also going to be a learning experience,” Mascariñas said. “But both Cebu and Manila Chooks have been training with Ub and Liman here for the past week. Hopefully, the lessons they learn from the Serbians will be of great help come the Manila Masters.”

Cebu Chooks, which ruled the FIBA 3×3 Asia Pacific Super Quest last month, will be led by the country’s top 3×3 player, Mac Tallo, who is ranked 110th by FIBA. The other members of the squad are Zach Huang, the second-highest ranked Filipino at 204th, Brandon Ramirez, and Mike Harry Nzeusseu.

Manila Chooks, which will see action in Group D, reached the final of the Mongolia Super Quest earlier this month, will be parading a lineup composed of Chico Lanete, Ken Holmqvist, Dennis Santos, and Henry Iloka.
