LED BY Monbert Arong, ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu got past Tubigon Bohol 61-55 on Wednesday night and ended the first round of the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup with a 3-2 record at the Alcantara Civic Center in Cebu.
After wrongly being implicated in a controversial game against the Mystics a week ago, Arong went into the match to redeem himself and the left-handed gunner did so in spectacular fashion.
From a 53-55 deficit, Arong sank a three-pointer, scored on a lay-up and then scored on an acrobatic shot to give ARQ a 60-55 advantage with 17 seconds left.
“Very good morale-boosting win for us, especially after ‘yung nangyari sa amin last week,” said Heroes assistant coach Jerry Abuyabor. “Malaking panalo ito para sa amin heading into the second round na hindi kami papasok ng tatlong sunod-sunod na talo.”
Although Arong had a tough night shooting the ball, going just 6-of-23 from the field, the former FEU Tamaraw found the mark it when it mattered most and ended up with 15 points to go with seven rebounds and two assists.
Vincent Minguito paced ARQ with 16 points, eight boards, and four dimes while Fletcher Galvez came off the bench and chipped in 11.
