AFTER being sworn into office at Malacañang yesterday morning, new Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard “Dickie” Bachmann conducted his first board meeting with commissioners Bong Coo, Walter Torres and Edward Hayco at the PSC administration building at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
A PSC source said that Bachmann, who was out of the country when he was appointed last week to replace Noli Eala, went to the RMSC at around 7:30 a.m. and inspected some of the facilities before heading to the Palace to take his oath of office at 10 o’clock.
He was sworn into office by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, with Deputy Executive Secretary Hubert Guevarra and daughters Ciara and Sophia witnessing the oath-taking.
The same source said Bachmann then returned to the PSC office and held a board meeting with Coo, Torres and Hayco. There were no immediate details available at press time.
A separate source said that since Bachmann arrived over the weekend, he had been receiving inputs from his older brother, Robert, the president of the Philippine Squash Academy, regarding the PSC as well as the Philippine Olympic Committee.
The new PSC chairman and his brother visited gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, national coach Munehiro Kugimiya, who returned to Tokyo last Tuesday, and the other members of the national gymnastics squad last Sunday at the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines training center in Intramuros.
A formal turnover of the government sports agency to Bachmann is being arranged by PSC executive director Guillermo Iroy Jr.
