PETRO Gazz advanced to the semifinals while showing the door on Chery Tiggo with a 25-21, 28-26, 25-21 victory yesterday in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo.
Veteran Ilonga spiker Aiza Maizo-Pontillas scored 13 points for the Angels, while open hitter Grethcel Soltones led the way with 14 markers.
Middle blockers Remy Palma and MJ Phillips added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as Petro Gazz ended the eliminations with four straight wins.
“Well, siyempre, it’s really hard, going out of town with an important match para sa amin, para sa Chery Tiggo. Nakita niyo naman iyong first set talagang isahan talaga so iyon talaga iyong mararamdaman mo na both teams really need this win,” Angels coach Oliver Almadro said. “But we’re happy to be an instrument, to showcase their talent. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, give their hearts, give their souls, give their strength here because they’re an instrument, maraming fans, maraming ngayon lang sila makikita in person, so ang laking bagay na nakapunta kami dito.
“What’s important is, we thank the Lord for the win, and I really thank these Angels for stepping up in the most crucial time,” he added.
Petro Gazz finished its eliminations campaign with a 6-2 mark, tied with F2. The Crossovers wound up with a 4-4 slate.
