CUE ace Rubilen Amit aims to add a new crown to her bulging trophy case when she and compatriot Chezka Centeno compete in the Kamui World Women’s 9-Ball Championship in January next year at the Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“Hopefully, maging maganda ang performance ko dun,” Amit, a two-time world 10-ball champion, said of one of the titles still missing from her glittering collection.
She took runner-up honors in the 2007 edition of the tournament in Taiwan and also placed third twice in the event in 2018 and 2019 in China.
A Vietnam Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist, Amit said she intends to go to the US around Jan. 10 or 11 to adjust to the time difference.
“Nahihirapan na rin akong mag-adjust sa time difference. I am not getting any younger,” acknowledged the fortysomething billiards star.
Only 64 players from all over the world have been invited to take part in the competition, which will be held in two stages and offers a total pot of $140,000 (around P7.8 million), with $30,000 (P1.4 million) going to the champion.
The first stage featuring all 64 players will be a double elimination round in a race-to-7 series while the next stage will have the top 16 entries advancing to the knockout phase in a race-to-9 series.
Organized by the Predator Group, an industry leader in pool and billiards products, the World Women’s 9-ball Championship is making a comeback after an absence of four years.
Briton Kelly Fisher will defend the title she won a second time in 2019 when the tournament was held in Sanya, China.
