Celebrities throw their hat in the political ring

Several celebrities have filed their Certificates of Candidacy for the coming elections.
Gunning for the top post is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who is a former “That’s Entertainment” member. For vice president, there is Senate President Tito Sotto.

For the senate, Herbert Bautista filed yesterday and is running under the Ping Lacson-Tito Sotto banner of the National People’s Coalition. Robin Padilla will run under PDP-Laban. It is the first time for both to run for a national position. Bistek started as councilor of Quezon City before becoming the vice mayor of Sonny Belmonte and then serving as local chief executive in the “City of Stars.”
Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada is seeking a senate comeback after his failed run in 2019.

The actor-politician filed his Certificate of Candidacy on Sunday, October 4 and is running under Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.

Jinggoy, the eldest son of President Erap Estrada, started his career in politics at only 25 years old, becoming the vice Mayor of his hometown in San Juan City, where his father served as its longest-tenured and best-known mayor. Shortly thereafter, he became the country’s youngest-ever elected local chief executive just before age 30. He served for three consecutive terms, and was elected as the National President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001.

Jolo Estrada and Richard Gomez, both serving local positions, will try their luck in congress.

Jolo is vice governor of Cavite. Richard is the current mayor of Ormoc and will run in congress in the fourth district of Leyte, a seat currently held by his wife, Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando is running for re-election. His running mate is Alex Castro, former board member. Former broadcaster Sol Aragones and Jeorge Estragan’s son, Jerico Estregan will run for governor and vice governor, respectively, in Laguna.

EJ Falcon is running for vice governor of Oriental Mindoro next year.

Jayson Abalos has filed his Certificate of Candidacy for board member in the second district of his native Nueva Ecija.

Congressman Yul Servo is running for Manila mayor.

Meanwhile, Aiko Melendez is returning to politics and filed her Certificate of Candidacy yesterday. She is running for councilor in the fifth district of Quezon City.

Congressman Alfred Vargas is gunning for a spot in the QC council, too. His brother, PM Vargas, will be the one who will run for congress.
