‘I had to think twice kung tatanggapin ko ito as I won’t accept any project that just sells sex.
— Kylie Verzosa’

KYLIE Verzosa got praised for her portrayal of “The Housemaid” but she says her new movie, “My Husband, My Lover” that will stream on Vivamax on November 26, is much more demanding.
“I play Alice, a writer who’s married to Marco Gumabao as Noel,” she says. “Happy naman kami but hindi ako satisfied so I still have a lover, si Adrian Alandy as Dennis. When I get pregnant, hindi ko alam kung sino ang ama, so I had to confess kay Marco and he splits from me. Sumama ako kay Adrian at siya na ang naging husband ko, but it turns out a DNA test shows na si Marco talaga ang ama nung bata. So dyan magsisimulang maging very complicated ang story.”
She has graphic love scenes with both Marco and Adrian.
“I had to think twice kung tatanggapin ko ito as I won’t accept any project that just sells sex. But Direk Mac Alejandre explained to me na may justification naman ang character ko.
What convinced me was when he said na for him, sex is something very sacred so he won’t just do an exploitative film. I felt I can trust him as a director kasi very clear ang intentions niya about the film. This is the most skin I’ve ever shown in a film, but very classy ang execution.”
How does her boyfriend, Jake Cuenca, feel about her doing love scenes with both Marco and Adrian where she even has a threesome with them?
“I informed him about my role, kasi si Alice, palaban sa bed scenes. I’m just very lucky to have a supportive boyfriend who is a very professional actor and understands my work.
Maganda naman ang material written by Ricky Lee and magaling ang director, so I just grabbed the chance to do this project. He now wishes me the best in my career. I’m blessed to have him by my side. And I’m just so grateful to Viva na nabibigyan nila ako ng ganitong projects. I appreciate that Viva puts their trust in me, giving me one project after another.”
Since the movie is about infidelity, in real life, would she forgive an erring husband or lover? “Yes, I can forgive. as long as he is willing to change. Huwag lang akong lolokohin uli kasi I’m not limitless sa pagpapatawad ko.”

Yassi Pressman is happy to be back in a movie, “More Than Blue,” a local adaptation of a hit Korean film where she is paired for the first time with JC Santos, co-starring Diego Loyzaga and Ariella Arida. This is directed by Nuel Naval, who did the hit local adaptations of Korean films “Miracle in Cell No 7” and “Miss Granny,” and will be shown streaming on Vivamax starting November 19.
“This is now one of my favorite projects. It’s about making a big sacrifice for the person you love. I play Cream and JC plays K. We’re both orphans kasi I lost my parents in a car accident at siya naman, abandoned by his mom after his dad died of cancer. We grow up as the best of friends but no romantic involvement. Then K discovers that, just like his dad, may cancer din siya but he keeps it a secret and instead, finds a guy who’d be in the best position to take good care of me when he is gone.”
Through K, she’d meet John Louis, played by Diego Loyzaga, a rich and successful dentist.
Cream falls in love with him and K is happy that he is leaving her to be with someone truly trustworthy. But John Louis’ ex-girlfriend, Ariella Arida, wants to reconcile with him, resulting into some complications.
“When I read the script pa lang, iyak na ako nang iyak. But I got nervous kasi Cream is very different from my character Alyanna which I’ve played for many years in ‘Probinsyano’.
Cream has a very happy personality, lives day by day and she can be very spontaneous.
Ang lalim ng bawat eksena in ‘More Than Blue’ and it’s good si JC ang kaeksena ko kasi nalalagyan niya ng tamang kahulugan ang bawat scene. It’s about love na sobrang ganda, pero ang sakit. This is our first film together but we’ve worked na in ‘Probinsyano’ kaya comfortable na kami with each other.”
Cinemas are opening again on November 10. Would she like to see this being shown in an actual theatre instead of just on a streaming channel?
“Yes, of course! I’m really so happy with the reopening of cinemas where movies should really be watched, on the big screen. It’s very important for the industry as it would give more jobs to people in the entertainment business. It shows there’s really hope. Sana nga lang, ma-regulate nang maayos for the safety of everyone.”

Vic Sotto is understandably very proud of his son Vico, current mayor of Pasig who is well loved for his dedicated service to his city. Some people are urging him to run for president in the future when he’s of age, because of his firm stand against corruption.
“It’s nice to hear all the praises people give to him,” says Vic at the press con of “Daddy’s Gurl.” “Kahit naman ako, naging member ng fans club niya. He’s setting a very good example on what good governance is all about, na pwede kang magpatakbo ng gobyerno na hindi nangungurakot.”
He’s been working from home since the pandemic started, appearing in “Eat Bulaga” and “Daddy’s Girl” online. “One benefit ng pandemic is nakita ko ang growth ni Tali (his daughter with wife Pauleen Luna). More than half of my life, I was working for my family.
Lagi akong nasa labas. Sina Danica, Oyo (his kids with Dina Bonnevie), they grew up na most of the time, I was out working, shooting, taping. With Tali, nakita ko ang development niya and I discovered na okay naman pala akong tatay.”
Since moviehouses are now allowed to open, will he be doing a new movie anytime soon?
“Naku, when it comes to movies, lie low muna ako kasi andami pang restrictions to shoot.
Sana nga, matapos na ang pandemic. Kung magtutuloy-tuloy ang pagbabalik sa normal, hopefully I will go back to shooting films by next year. Nakaka-miss din kasing gumawa ng pelikula. So when things get better, see you again at the Metro Manila film fest next year.”
