No regrets

Since moving to ABS-CBN, Lovi’s career has flourished.

LOVI POE

LOVI Poe has no regrets moving to ABS-CBN as her career has really flourished after she became a Kapamilya. Her suspense-drama, “Flower of Evil,” where she does a lot of action scenes without a double, is a big hit on Viu, iWant and now, on the Kapamilya channels.

Her mini-series with Janine Gutierrez, “Sleep With Me,” won awards abroad and is also a hit with local viewers. And she shares that she will be seen again in another big ABS-CBN project, “Batang Quiapo,” where she is paired with Coco Martin for the first time.

“‘Batang Quiapo’ is a big hit originally made by my dad (FPJ) and I love it that I’m now part of its TV version,” she says. “This will be shot on location in Quiapo and I just love projects that bring me out of my comfort zone. I feel great as they bring out the best in me. May mga bagay na akala ko hindi ko magagawa, but with the projects they’re now giving me, I’m surprised na kaya ko pala!”

Lovi was just launched as the face Ready Set Glow cosmetics and she shared her exclusive tips and personal secrets. “Wearing them makes me feel strong, independent and beautiful. With them, I feel complete. Ready Set Glow has products that are convenient for multi-use, meaning, you can use them on your eyes, lips, face and body! And they can be easily stashed in your make up kits.”

Therese Malvar is best remembered as the child actress who beat Nora Aunor as best actress in the 2013 CineFilipino Film Festival as a girl who gets infatuated with Angel Aquino in “Huling Chacha ni Anita.” She was then 11 years old.

After that she did the 2015 movie “Hamog” and won as best actress as a young juvenile delinquent in the Cinema One Originals and in two international film festivals: Shanghai and Moscow. In 2018, she won the Eddys best supporting actress award for her role as an evil spirit in the horror flick, “Ilawod.”

And in 2019, she won best supporting actress awards in the Cinemalaya Filmfest for the films “Distance” where she played the alienated daughter of Iza Calzado and “School Service” where she played a promiscuous street child. Therese is now 22 years old and plays her most mature role to date as the young wife of Jeric Gonzales in “Broken Blooms” that will be shown in theaters on December 14.

“First time ko to play a wife and young mother,” she says. “The movie shows what happens to very young people when they get married so young. My character is not really prepared to be a wife and mother kaya hirap na hirap siya, specially adjusting to her exacting mother-in-law, played by Tita Jaclyn Jose.”

For her performance in this film, she won the Critics Choice Award for best actress in an indie film in Mokkho International Filmfest in India, while Jeric Gonzales won the Critics Choice Award for best actor. How did she feel doing intimate scenes with Jeric when she has yet to have a boyfriend in real life?

“I was so nervous when we were shooting it. Gusto ko, maging natural lang ang kissing scene namin kasi mag-asawa naman kami sa story. Thanks to Jeric, siya ang nagdala ng eksena and he’s very gentle and understanding. Salamat din kay Direk Louie na ginabayan ako, naitawid naman namin ‘yung scene.”

Kiko Estrada has been busy doing one movie after joining Vivamax. He was first seen with AJ Raval in the action-drama, “Sitio Diablo,” then the love triangle story, “Us X Her,” again with AJ plus Angeli Khang. And now, he is in another love drama and they are a foursome this time, “Laruan,” with Franki Russell, Jay Manalo and Ava Mendez, written and directed by Yam Laranas.

Kiko is just elated to have one movie assignment right after another. His role in “Us X Her” was first offered to Diego Loyzaga but a couple of days before the shoot started, Diego got sick. How does Kiko feel that he’s just a second choice?

“Oh, I don’t really mind,” he says. “I read the script nang mabilisan and I liked it so I said yes to Direk Jules kasi sobrang ganda ng script niya. But I called Diego muna kasi we’re close. He said he’s too sick to do it so I accepted the role since it’s a blessing.

“‘Laruan’ is a movie is about relationships and how we ourselves complicate it. It’s a game of sexual politics and the script of Direk Yam Laranas explores the dynamics between the various characters well. Magugulat kayo sa mga twist sa takbo ng story and I’m really glad to be a part of this intriguing movie.”

Kiko is one certified ladies’ man. Since he joined showbiz, he’s been linked to various actresses, including Kim Rodriguez, Barbie Forteza, Devon Seron, Heaven Peralejo and the latest is beauty queen Janelle Lewis.
