‘Duterte’s break from Marcos was a sure sign that she will try vigorously, along with her father, to capture more local strongholds in next year’s local elections…’
OUR democracy with a Constitution that foisted non-block voting of the President and Vice-President is deepening political partisanship instead of diminishing or eliminating it. This is one of the objectionable features of our awfully-thriving “demo-crazy.”
Effective governance is better served if the President is not distracted by a hostile Vice President whose sights are set on Malacanang the day after being elected as the second most powerful official of the land.
Look at what happened during the presidency of Erap Estrada, with Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the VP. Instead of serving the country in earnest, they, with little doubt, engaged in covert political plots to undermine each other.
This pestering sense of disunity is embedded in our country’s political culture, and any alliance, such as the Uniteam of President Bongbong Marcos and Vice President Sarah Duterte, has been besieged by high ambition and power.
Duterte’s break from Marcos was a sure sign that she will try vigorously, along with her father, to capture more local strongholds in next year’s local elections in preparation for the national polls in 2028.
From where we sit, one major reason for her sudden resignation is to stand steadfast with his father, the former President, in the face of his imminent arrest order from the ICC.

Many senior citizens struggle with the thought of entering the afterlife and with the uncertainty of spending it so blissfully and gloriously with Our Lord or in condemnation or judgment in the “other world.”
The iconic Clint Eastwood, now in his late 80s, is still living it up. And how! The following was his response to the question of country singer Tony Keith on his “secret of being active and brilliant.”
“When I get up every day, I don’t let the old man in. My secret has been the same since 1959: keeping busy. I never let the old man enter the house. I had to drag him out because the guy was comfortably installed, giving me the piss all the time.
“You have to stay active, alive, happy, strong, capable. It’s in us, our intelligence, attitudes, ingenuity. We are young people with independence. I do not let in the old spirit, the critic, hostile, envious, that being who scrutinizes our past, to knot us with complaints and remote anguish, and revived traumas or waves of pain. Aging can be pleasant, and even fun, if you know how to use your time, if you are satisfied with what you have achieved, and if you continue to keep the illusion”.
The legendary Eastwood has had 10 Oscar nominations and took home four statuettes, all of that after having crossed the sixties. That’s called “not letting the old man in,” which inspired a song by Keith bearing the same title.
