Pinoys urged: Be ‘citizen poll observers

SAYING a citizen election observer do not need to be an official member of poll watchdogs, the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) yesterday called on all Filipinos to help protect the integrity and guard the forthcoming May 9 polls.

In a statement, Namfrel urged the public to guard the election process from the pre-election period to Election Day, to the post-election period.

“Citizen election observers need not be a member of any election monitoring organization, like Namfrel, or of political parties, or any election management body,” said Namfrel.

“All voters can be citizen election observers to ensure that their votes are counted correctly, and that the elections are held in a way that is fair to all stakeholders,” it added.

To help enable the public, the poll watchdog urged everybody to share and watch a video at https://bit.ly/2022NAMFRELBantayNgBayan.

The video details the different violations that citizens can easily look out for during the different phases of the electoral process.

In addition, Namfrel outlined how and to whom citizens can report or seek assistance regarding the said violations.

“Namfrel encourages the distribution or sharing of this video to reach as many people as possible,” said Namfrel.

Namfrel has been accredited as a citizens’ arm of the Commission on Elections for the May 9 polls.

Namfrel has since started fielding volunteers across the country to observe election-related activities.
