PCG regains control of Facebook page

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday said it has regained control of its Facebook page several days after losing it to hackers.

PCG spokesman Rear Admiral Armando Balilo said Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center and Meta for the conduct of “backend operations and assess the security breach.”

“The CGPAS is also set to conduct another hardware check with IT (information technology) experts from the Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics, and Information System Command to strengthen its cybersecurity measures,” the PCG said.

Hackers gained control of the PCG Facebook page last March 29 and posted “malicious short videos.”

The PCG said efforts are still underway to identify people involved in the hacking.

This was the second time this year that the PCG lost its Facebook page to hackers.

The first was on February 15. The hackers also posted short videos. Four days later, the PCG gained control of its page from the hackers who were identified by their Facebook names as Fatima Hasan, Murat Kansu, and Vicky Bates.
