A JOINT operation by the Bureau of Immigration and the police led to the confiscation of contrabands and over P500,000 in cash inside the immigration detention facility housing foreigners in Bicutan, Taguig City early yesterday.
Dubbed “Oplan Greyhound,” the operation targeted the BI Warden Facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa at around 2 a.m.
The operation was carried out by a BI team from its Intelligence Division led by retired police general Honorio Agnila, the NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit, NCRPO Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and operatives of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
Police said the operation resulted in the confiscation of “several pieces of contrabands such as cellular phones, laptops, internet routers and cords, cigarettes, over P500,000 in cash and other prohibited items inside the facility.”
The BI Warden Facility is a temporary detention and holding area for foreigners facing deportation proceedings.
A surprise drug test was also conducted on personnel guarding the detention facility by the forensic team of the Southern Police District.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier said authorities seized six smart phones from one of the four Japanese detained at the BI detention facility whose deportation is being sought by Japanese authorities for allegedly masterminding a string of robberies in Japan.
