THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) yesterday alerted overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against the presence of unscrupulous individuals making false claims of being the collecting agents of the agency.
In a social media post, OWWA said old and new OFWs must be vigilant against those claiming to be deputized collecting officers of OWWA authorized to receive the $25 membership fees of each worker.
“Based on the information we received, there are individuals claiming to be deputized collecting officers that receive membership fees from our OFWs,” said OWWA.
“Since 2023, these individuals have continuously pretended to be our authorized agents and are giving out fake receipts,” it added.
OWWA said the public must be cautious over such individuals, adding they have not been deputized by the agency.
“Do not believe these scammers offering such services,” said OWWA.
It stressed that OWWA membership fees may only be paid in all OWWA regional offices and overseas welfare offices.
OWWA said it can also be paid online only via the OWWA Mobile App.
Each OFW is required to pay $25 as membership contribution to be an OWWA member.
The membership fee entitles an OFW to various benefits and services offered by OWWA.
