A DAY after being appointed as head of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), George Garcia yesterday inspected the fire-hit seventh floor at the Palacio del Gobernador Building in Intramuros, Manila.
Acting Comelec Spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said Garcia visited the 7th floor to assess the damage caused by the fire at the reception area of the Information Technology Department (ITD).
Aside from the ITD, he said Garcia also visited the neighboring offices in the 7th floor.
After concluding his visit, the incoming poll chief, according to Laudiangco, recommended the continuation of the work-from-home set-up for all officials and employees whose offices and departments were affected by the fire.
Doing so, he said, shall allow the mandatory electrical and structural inspection of the entire building.
Laudiangco said this will also give the maintenance personnel sufficient time to fully restore electrical power to the building.
Last Monday, Malacañang announced the appointment of Garcia as Comelec chairman.
