New cases up; 32 more die

NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases continued an alarming surge while deaths from the deadly virus continued to dip with just 32 more fatalities, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH reported 6,560 new cases yesterday, which did not include figures from four laboratories that failed to submit data, as infections in the country rose to 1,524,449 while the death toll climbed to 26,874 for a case fatality rate of 1.76.

Deaths have been on a downward swing since last Monday when just 72 deaths were reported, followed by just 58 last Tuesday. More than 100 deaths were reported last Saturday and Sunday.

New cases, meanwhile, continued their upward trend from just 4,516 last Tuesday and 5,651 last Monday.

Active cases rose to 47,996 from 46,806 last Tuesday, with 92.1 percent mild cases, 2.6 percent severe cases, 1.8 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.8 percent moderate cases, and 1.6 percent critical cases.

The DOH also reported 5,364 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,449,579. This means that 95.1 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
