OCTA: Repro rate in NCR now at 0.57
FOR the second straight day, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country stayed under the 7,000 mark but 86 more deaths were reported by the Department of Health yesterday.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country climbed to 2,727,286 counting the 6,943 new cases and the 6,913 reported last Sunday.
The death toll rose to 40,761 for a case fatality rate of 1.49.
Meanwhile, the reproduction rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) continues to decline and is now at 0.57 as of October 17, according to OCTA fellow Guido David.
This is lower than the 0.61 reproduction rate registered last October 11.
The positivity rate in the NCR currently stands at 9 percent, compared to 12 percent last October 11.
The positivity rate in the country stands at 13.3 percent out of the 54,150 tests conducted last October 16.
David said the current average daily attack rate (ADAR) in NCR is 10.23 per 100,000 population, lower than the ADAR of 13.65 per 100,000 population recorded by OCTA last October 11.
The research firm said the NCR’s seven-day average decreased to 1,448 cases from 1,933 last October 11.
Over the weekend, OCTA said the country could be looking at 5,000 new COVID-19 cases per day by next week.
“It looks like gone are the days of 10,000+ cases, barring an occasional backlog dump,” David said in a social media post.
The DOH also reported 19,687 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,617,693. This means that 96 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.
Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there are still 68,832 active cases in the country, with 79.7 percent mild cases, 8.4 percent moderate cases, 5.5 percent asymptomatic cases, 4.5 percent severe cases, and 1.9 percent critical cases.
