Taiwanese illegal entrant to PH nabbed in Baguio

IMMIGRATION officers have arrested in Baguio City a Taiwanese who illegally entered the country through the southern backdoor.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Cheng Chin-Pang, 69, was arrested on Sto. Tomas Road, Green Valley, Dontogan, by operatives of its Regional Intelligence Operations Unit–Cordillera Administrative Region in coordination with the local police on September 25.

“Cheng admitted that he boarded a boat from Malaysia, entered the Philippines last year through the southern backdoor via Tawi-Tawi before eventually proceeding to Manila without undergoing proper immigration inspection,” Viado said.

Cheng was apprehended as an illegal entrant who violated the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.

He was immediately brought to the BI main office in Manila for booking, medical examination, and biometrics and has since been committed to the BI warden facility in Taguig pending deportation proceedings.

“Foreign nationals who sneak into the Philippines without proper documentation will be arrested, deported, and barred from returning. This is part of our duty to uphold national security and safeguard our immigration system,” the BI chief said, as he reminded foreigners against resorting to illegal means to enter the country.
