PDEA: P56.37B illegal drugs seized so far under Marcos admin

SOME P56.37 billion worth of illegal drugs have been seized in the campaign against illegal drugs under the administration of President Marcos Jr., the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said yesterday.

Citing data from July 1, 2022 to January 31 this year, PDEA said the seized drugs included 7,298 kilos of shabu worth P49.62 billion.

Also seized during the period were 89.19 kilos of cocaine; 121,022 pieces of ecstasy; and 6,247.7 kilos of marijuana.

PDEA said the illegal drugs were seized in 97,406 drug operations conducted throughout the country.

The agency said the operations also led to the arrest of 131,578 drug personalities, including 8,404 high-value targets.

PDEA said the operations also led to the dismantling of 1,301 drug dens and three clandestine laboratories.

It also reported that 29,390 barangays have been cleared of illegal drugs under its Barangay Drug Clearing Program which was launched in February 2017.

PDEA said 6,113 barangays are still subject to drug-clearing operations.

Police seized P349,996 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested a 47-year-old man in a buy-bust operation in Binangonan, Rizal last Tuesday.

Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO) director, identified the suspect as alias Joel, a resident of the municipality.

Seized from him were 5 plastic sachets containing more or less 51.47 grams of suspected shabu. – With Christian Oineza
