PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will go on a five-day state visit to India from August 4 to 8, as Manila and New Delhi mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Malacanang said yesterday.
The President is visiting India officially on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom he will sit for a bilateral meeting in New Delhi.
Marcos will also work with the Filipino community and some businessmen in New Delhi and Bangalore.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the last state visit to India by a Philippine president was made by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in October 2007, while the last visit of an Indian president to Manila was in 2019 by then-Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said Marcos will, apart from his meeting with the Prime Minister on August 5, meet with External Affairs Minister Droupadi Murmu, and former Indian foreign minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said India’s relations with the Philippines are an “integral pillar of our ‘Act East’ Policy, Vision Mahasagar and our vision of the Indo-Pacific”.
“The visit is an opportunity for both leaders to set the path for future bilateral cooperation, and to engage on regional and international issues of mutual interest,” it added.
