Marcos okays P6.793T national budget for 2026

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday approved the proposed P6.793 trillion budget for 2026 which would be used to promote not just economic growth but also to uplift the lives of Filipinos.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, in a briefing, said the President approved the proposed 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP) during the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Tuesday.

“Sa layuning mapataas ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa Pilipinas at pagaanin ang pamumuhay ng mga Pilipino, inaprubahan ni President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., ang P6.793 trillion proposed budget para sa susunod na taon (With the aim of improving the quality of education in the Philippines and improving the living standards of Filipinos, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved the P6.793 trillion proposed budget for next year),” Castro said.

“Sa ginanap na Cabinet meeting sa Malacañang kaninang umaga, binigyang diin ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na sisiguruhin na ang 2026 budget ay hindi lamang pang-economic growth kung di maiangat ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino at ang susunod na mga henerayson (During the Cabinet meeting held in Malacañang [on Tuesday] morning, President Marcos Jr. emphasized that he will ensure that the 2026 budget will not only ensure economic growth but also uplift the lives of every Filipino and the next generations),” she added.

The Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC), chaired by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, approved last month the proposed P6.793 trillion budget, which is equivalent to 22 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The proposed budget, which is 7.4 percent higher than the P6.326 trillion budget this year, will be submitted to Congress after Marcos’ fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28.
