AN alleged Japanese gang member wanted by Tokyo was arrested last Tuesday in Novaliches, Quezon City by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Daisuke Ikeno, 50, was apprehended on Quirino Highway in Barangay Santa Monica, Novaliches.
Viado said information provided by Japanese authorities showed that Daisuke was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Fukuoka Summary Court on March 23, 2025, for theft in violation of Article 248 of the Japanese Penal Code.
According to BI FSU Chief Rendel Ryan Sy, the Japanese is said to be one of the surviving members of the JP Dragon syndicate, which was notoriously known for theft and fraud operations in Japan.
The group reportedly targeted elderly victims by posing as law enforcers to steal ATM cards and banking information under the guise of police investigations.
After his arrest, Ikeno was transferred to the BI’s warden facility in Taguig pending deportation proceedings.
“The President has made it clear that the Philippines will not be a safe haven for foreign fugitives. We are committed to flushing them out and sending them back to face justice in their home countries,” Viado added of the Japanese national’s arrest.
