Copyright infringement case vs Quiboloy junked

THE Pasig City Prosecutors’ office has junked the copyright infringement case filed against detained Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy regarding the campaign jingle used for his senatorial bid during the midterm elections last May.

“This Office finds no prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction that respondents committed the crime. Thus, it is respectfully recommended that the complaint against respondents Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy and Dr. Marlon B. Rosete for the crime of copyright infringement under Section 2017 of Republic Act 8293 be dismissed,” the resolution dated May 23, 2025 by the Pasig City Prosecutors’ Office said.

Rosete is the President of SMNI Network.

Quiboloy and Rosete were sued by hip-hop artist Omar “Omar Baliw” Manzano, who claimed that his song “K&B” was used without permission as a campaign jingle for Quiboloy’s senatorial bid.

Manzano said this was done in violation of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

Quiboloy, who lost in his senatorial bid, was arrested last year after several weeks in hiding after a warrant was issued by a local court. He is facing a qualified human trafficking case, a non-bailable offense under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, before the Pasig City Regional Trial Court.

He is also facing charges for child abuse and exploitation before a Quezon City court.

He also faces a string of cases in the US, including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, and sex trafficking of children, conspiracy, and bulk cash smuggling.

He is also included in the US Federal Bureau of Investigation’s list of most wanted persons.

Quiboloy has denied all accusations.
