The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has indefinitely suspended all preparations for the October 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE), Comelec chairman George Garcia said on Wednesday.
The suspension follows a Supreme Court (SC) order that temporarily halted the implementation of a law reorganizing Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (BARMM) parliamentary districts.
On Tuesday, the SC issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) halting the Comelec and the Bangsamoro Transition Authority from enforcing Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 77.
The TRO will stand until the court resolves the two related cases.
The Comelec directive was issued during the ongoing distribution of election supplies across the BARMM.
